The Oracle
- I am going to make a shitload of money today.
If God has to choose an archangel of investment and finance, it would be Warren Buffett.
I am not going to try to write out a biography of the excellent Warren, “The Oracle of Omaha”, there are plenty of far greater pieces written than I am capable of.
This website honors the investment principles and practices that are known to us about Mr. Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway – BRK-A . We use the concepts of “buy it like a private enterprise” and “diversification is an insurance against ignorance” to help steer our analysis in any investment decision. Since the site is also about SRI, the decision shall be based upon those principles in conjunction with what we call the “Warren Buffett Test.”
That exact formula of this test boils down to fairly complex ratios and static number values and is a trade secret, but it basically involves the following:
Would I purchase this company outright and run it myself?
Would I sell this particular security to my family and friends?
Do I believe in the service or product that this firm has to offer?
Do the services or products offered have a need or viable market throughout recessionary periods and beyond?
Are their customers paying well and how are their businesses fairing?
Is the management strong? Where did they work before and were they successful there as well?
Do I want this for future generations?
We do not believe in short term trading for stock and bonds. Save that for the currencies market. Sitting at a trading station, which looks more like a NORAD inbound missile tracking station, with your finger on the trigger, watching price action, oscillators and the like on one minute charts is great for forex. Companies, on the other hand, are purchased because we believe in them and want to see them succeed and grow. Annual reports, quarterlies, statements and management research is all we need to make a sound financial decision. The moral decisions are weighed as well, then a purchase is considered.
We are “Buy and Hold”. We are utilizing our capital to promote those who we believe will make this a better world; standing on the mountaintop, surveying all human endeavor and saying, “Who shall get our capital?”
That is what we do.
